Obama wins with what’s now 100 more electoral votes than Romney and Florida will eventually go to Obama giving him 332 electoral votes to Romney’s anemic 206 electoral votes. And no matter what that ridiculous clown Trump says…

… Obama won the popular vote 59,584,123 to Romney’s 56,961,230 giving Obama 2,622,893 more votes than Romney.

That toad Todd “legitimate rape” Akin was replaced by a Democratic woman, Claire “all rape is legitimate” McCaskill. Florida voters rejected a ban private insurance coverage of abortions.

Marriage equality passed in Maine (53% for, 47% against), Maryland (52% for, 48% against) and Minnesota’s ban on future (you had to vote against it for vote for marriage equality) same-sex marriage failed (48% for, 51% against). Also, Washington’s Referendum 74 to ban marriage equality failed (52% for, 48% against).

California approved a ballot initiative to label all genetically modified foods.

Also, it a victory against the failed drug war, Colorado and Washington State legalized recreational marijuana for recreational use and Massachusetts overwhelmingly passed a measure to legalize medical marijuana. Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) said:

“This will be a complicated process, but we intend to follow through. That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug, so don’t break out the Cheetos or Goldfish too quickly.”

It was also a good night for rational polling. I was one of the few who were spared the torture many endured. I followed two election forecast sources for all my election updates: Nate Silver and Princeton’s Election Consortium. I knew going in that, barring an outright theft of the election, Obama would win… and it’s not as if Republicans didn’t engage in practically any and all types of voter fraud, intimidation and suppression to steal the election.

I hate the way the media will torture everyone with insisting that this was such a tight horse race. I think it causes a lot of people a lot of unneeded anxiety. Today, Forbes had this to say about all the unnecessary BS the electorate endured at the hands of the media:

Political expertise must – and will – be redefined. The silly debate over Silver’s model showed a political, pundit and media class at a classic horse-and-buggy meets internal combustion engine (or is it ink-stained newspaper curmudgeons meet Internet?) moment: ignorance and fear masked by loud harumphing. It seems like an amusing footnote now, but only days ago Peggy Noonan was seriously arguing that a mild proliferation of Romney yard signs she observed in liberal Northwest Washington, plus magical vibrations of true Americanness emanating from all over, were signs of imminent Romney victory. Other Silver critics seemed not to understand basic statistical concepts. Others tried to change the subject. Some political reporters simply ignored the existence of polling averages altogether,pumping up the uncertainties of divergent poll results into epistemological voids. I don’t have high hopes in the short run. But people want Silver’s kind of knowledge; it generates huge traffic to the New York Times site. Media organizations understand that, if nothing else. In the long run political journalists and campaign consultants are going to need to know rudimentary statistics; they will be referring to models as a baseline for the state of a given race. And, one hopes, fact-checking those random gut feelings about a candidate’s “momentum.”

Even while all of this was great, there were a few downers.

• While expected, Oregon failed to pass a measure to legalize marijuana.
• Voters in Salinans, Kansas voted to overturn LGBT protections.
• Uber right wing crazy people Michele “I run an ex-gay organization” Bachmann and Ted “no abortions for rape victims” Cruz narrowly won their contests and are now claiming the eking out a narrow victory = mandate for their theocratic ideology.

Lastly, I want to comment on the myth that Obama’s a socialist meme. The only way you can view Obama as being a left winger is if you’re a far right right-winger; anyone in the middle will look as if they’re far left of you if you’re Fox-News-makes-sense Republican. Gas prices are lower than when Bush left office (I know, Fox lied to you), gas exports are higher than what we’re importing which makes us, yes… energy independent (Again, fox news lied to you), practically all independent economists note that trickledown economics is BS and Obama’s recovery worked and we’re really fucking hawkish when it comes to bombing the hell out of people in other countries – even if we have to kill a bunch of innocent civilians. Obama isn’t a socialist lefty; he’s a centrist (and sometimes a right-of-center centrist). If you think Obama is a far lefty, that government wants to take over healthcare, that socialism is coming, that godless heathens are taking everything over, that evolution is just a theory and that’s a lot of debate about evolution that needs to be taught in school, then:

1. You’re an gullible nincompoop who never bothers to independently fact check anything
2. Turn off Fox News and while you’re at it, turn off the AM radio. It rots your critical thinking abilities.
3. Chances are you’re an H-BSer (Zing! Pow! Right in the kisser!)
