Cristan

Its been a while since I made a blog entry. In fact, I’ve not has much time to give to TransHouston for the past few weeks : (

Carolyn and I went by the Center yesterday and took some photos of the progress…

New roof is on; porch columns are replaced…

Carolyn is running away from the horrid fireplace. This will be torn out and a custom mantel will be built.

Library shelves have been installed

Downstairs bathroom is about to get a facelift too.

Contractor talking to the architect about how to rebuild the stairs.

There is still so much to do to the house. We still have so much to buy for the place as well. Wow… so much yet to do… BUT, we may be opening around June 15th or so.

Carolyn and I stopped by the framer this morning to drop off more jobs to be framed. Gowd but framing is expensive! Afterwards, ran a few more errands for the Center and then went to see Forbidden Kingdom with Jet Li and Jackie Chan. It was entertaining, but I went in thinking that it was going to be a House of Flying Daggers. It isn’t – it is a goofy Chan movie with incredible stunts and general wackiness. After that, we tried to take a walk in the Japanese Gardens, but the park was having an event and we just couldn’t find anyplace to park. Carolyn was hungry, so we stopped by the Hollywood where she had her black pepper tofu and I had a uber yummy Vietnamese coffee.

Tomorrow, I am gonna do next to nothing. It is likely that I won’t even answer my phone. I’m just wiped out and need some down-time.

Ugh! And I’m gonna just put it out there… When I see someone pissing and moaning about how awful transhouston is, I secretly hope that they will just delete their account and go away. I really, really appreciate it when folks like Lilly, Caisha, Dee, etc tell me about a problem because they have always put some effort into thinking of how the problem might be addressed… and if they can’t think of a solution, they will say that they don’t know what to do about it, but that they just wanted to let me know about a problem. When someone decides to beat their highchair with their spoon because they don’t have online social skills, I wonder what is going through their minds other than the own sophomoric need to act out. Don’t they know that freaking out in a public forum is like erecting a permanent monument to let people know that interacting with them should avoided?!?

I ran across a booklet I picked up in 2001 that showcases the art of Sharon Kopriva. I really like her work even though it is grotesque. It tends to speak volumes about the worst of Christianity – which I appreciate since the caustic side of that faith was used as a weapon against me. To me, her work seems to speak to that part of Christianity that is grotesque, vial, retched, small and… well… dead.

Certainly, the Christian faith seems to come alive through books like The Sermon on the Mount, but so much of the other stuff is just damaging to the heart. The other stuff is what I see reflected in Kopriva’s art. If anyone wants to see it in person, you see it at the Barbara Davis Gallery at 4411 Montrose here in Houston from 5/12 to 6/5 2008.
